Central Coast Home
Vintners Association
The Mission
The
objectives of the Central Coast Home
Vintners’ Association are to promote better understanding of the science
of wine making, wine preparation, wine evaluation and wine appreciation by:
Encouraging
members to develop their knowledge and skills in growing grapes
(viticulture) and making wine (oenology).
Consulting
and cooperating with professional vintners and growers.
Cooperating
with other wine clubs to promote better evaluation of wine.
Bringing
about closer cooperation between members, encouraging making better wine,
and providing a medium to exchange ideas and experience relative to making
and evaluating wine.
Encouraging the development and implementation of programs to educate the public at large in the art of making wine.
We
host several social events (barbeques and winemaker dinners) during the year,
hold winemaking classes and offer winemaking and grape growing advice to club
members.
The
club sponsors a grape buying co-op that allows home winemakers to purchase high
quality grapes from Paso Robles, Edna Valley, Santa Maria Valley and Santa Ynez
vineyards at reasonable prices. The co-op also has the ability to help crush
your grapes and measure the brix, total acid and pH of the must.
We
own a crusher stemmer, 2 basket presses (#30 and #45), a filter and 2 stand
corkers that members can use to process their grapes. The club also makes
available new glass and good quality corks to members at a reasonable cost.
